My name is Jeffrey W. Danese, MS, MA, LMHC, LPCC, and I am a licensed mental health counselor in Washington State and California, currently based in Sacramento. I bring over 15 years of clinical experience across private practice, inpatient and outpatient mental health settings, and college counseling, along with a an academic background teaching psychology, religious studies, and the history of science in higher education from UCSB, FSU, and 10 years at SJSU to various community colleges in the Puget Sound region and in North Florida and cross-cultural experiences such as living in Taiwan, Zambia, Germany and traveling around the world; I studied Spanish, German, and Chinese language, world history and religions, psychology, evolutionary psychology and the cognitive science of religion; was raised Catholic but ordained as a Buddhist monk in Thailand; and continue to meditate, explore and read broadly. One of my favorite quotes is by the Roman writer, Terence: "I am human and there is nothing human foreign to me." (or, Homo sum, humani nihil a me alienum puto. -- Publius Terentius Afer, 165 BCE)
More that fifteen years of teaching English and drama at a Los Angeles public high school taught me many things - primarily, it taught me how often people's barriers to achievement are not due to any lack of skill or ability, but rather from emotional barriers stemming from stress, adversity and trauma. So, I went back to graduate school to pursue a new career as a therapist so that I could help in a different way. My training and experience has focused on treating anxiety disorders, PTSD (including Complex-PTSD) and also couples - helping them to navigate challenges and triggers so that they can reset and reconnect.
Hi, I'm Kathryn. I specialize in working with new moms and families as they transition into a new phase of life. Welcome to my practice.
I am passionate about walking through pregnancy and postpartum highs and lows with new moms. I do work with women at all stages of life from starting relationships and careers to the later years of retirement. I work also with men and with couples.
I offer a compassionate, welcoming space for children to work through challenges and build confidence. If your child is having a hard time with emotions, behavior, or school, you’re not alone, I’m here to help! With five years as a school-based therapist, I value working closely with families and schools to support the whole child, so they feel supported in all areas of their life.
I’ve spent my professional life walking alongside people in some of their most vulnerable moments—from infants in early childhood programs to youth in group homes, adults in substance-use recovery, and families involved with CPS. These experiences shaped my belief that everyone has the capacity to heal when they have the opportunity to match with a therapist who can listen, teach, challenge, and support them through it. I am trauma-informed and utilize approaches such as CBT and EMDR to help clients move from survival to restoration and growth. My approach is practical, real, and deeply rooted in lived experience and genuine care for the people I serve.
My focus
I specialize in working with adults facing depression, anxiety, grief, PTSD, occupational stress, relationship conflicts, cultural and identity issues, and survivors of abuse. I help clients build understanding and chart a path forward using evidence-based approaches.
My communication style
My style is nurturing, accepting, empathic, and personable. I use unconditional positive regard to help you feel safe without judgment. I validate how you feel and normalize your situation so you can feel comfortable and at ease in our work together.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a therapist because I have always accepted others, regardless of their background or circumstances. I believe in advocating for those who may not otherwise have a voice.

I’m a licensed psychologist with a doctorate in clinical psychology, experienced in supporting adults and older teens through anxiety, self-worth, relationships, and life transitions. Clients describe me as warm, grounded, and approachable, with a style that’s both compassionate and direct. I create a space where you feel seen, understood, and supported while working toward meaningful change.
I provide a space rooted in safety, deep listening, and compassion. Healing is a sacred journey—a process of growing insight, clarity, and wisdom while reclaiming wholeness and transforming pain into purpose. Together, we can explore the paths that lead to a satisfying life filled with peace, joy, and mastery.
Whether you are struggling with depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, building intimacy in relationships, responding to emotions, or the stress of being human, it is key to know that you are not alone. I offer a safe and comfortable space to explore these struggles.
I am a highly skilled therapist with a strong focus on trauma therapy, substance abuse, and mental health. I hold dual licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and as an Associate Clinical Counselor.
